Creole Music Fest
After a one year interruption due to the devastation wreaked by tropical storm Erika in 2015, Dominica will once again host its eagerly anticipated World Creole Music Festival. Taking place from October 28 to 30, there will feature a heady mix of genres including Afro beat, Dominica’s popular bouyon, calypso, compa, rap, reggae, soca and zouk. This year’s WCMF promises to be a spectacular celebration, made even more special because of what the country has recently been through.
Audiences can look forward to performances from international artists including Akon (America/Senegal), Dédé Saint Prix (Martinique), the collective Grand Merchant Zouk (Guadeloupe), Kes the Band (Trinidad and Tobago), Kreole La (Haiti), Mr Killa (Grenada), Morgan Heritage (Jamaica), Popcaan (Jamaica), Timaya (Nigeria), T-Mickey (Haiti) and Wyclef Jean (America/Haiti). Local Dominican artists and bands Asa Banton, Breve and More, Extasy, Michele Henderson, Midnight Groovers, Ophelia Marie, Original Bouyon Pioneers, Triple Kay and WCK are also expected to be highlights of this year’s WCMF.
