Red Dead Redemption Officially Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption will become officially backward compatible on the Xbox One this Friday, July 8.

Xbox 360 Red Dead owners will be able to play the game on Xbox One no matter the version of the game they owned — the original Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, or the Game of the Year edition — while those who didn’t can purchase the game on Xbox One beginning Friday.

The 2010 game was leaked as a possible backward compatible title earlier this year. Access to the game was later removed, however, with Larry Hyrb noting that the game was made available for a brief window due to a testing error.

Set in the early 1900’s, Red Dead Redemption followed the story of former outlaw John Marston. For those returning to the game later this week or trying it out for the first time, check out IGN’s original review of the “must-play game.”

Maps reportedly leaked for a sequel, which is also reportedly a prequel, to the game earlier this year.
