Sangakkara: Tallawahs have good balance
Former Sri Lanka Test star, Kumar Sangakkara, feels pressure will no doubt be on everyone to deliver for the 2013 Caribbean Premier League champions – Jamaica Tallawahs but says he will just go out to have fun while tipping his team to take the top title this year.
Sangakkara considers the Tallawahs a good balance of international experienced players, seasoned performers and youth. They will play their opening match against the Patriots in Basseterre, St Kitts on July 2 while the tournament will bowl off later today with a match between the Trinbago Knight Riders and St.Lucia Zouks in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
“Pressure is always on everyone to deliver, and sometimes the longer you play, the more pressure is on you, that’s something you can’t change, it’s just something you have to accept and the best way to deal with it is just to go out there and do your best,” he said.
According to the veteran batsman, the Jamaican franchise will be serious contenders.
“We have some great players, seasoned internationals, seasoned foreign players, really young, fresh exciting young talents so it’s a great mix.
There are no secret ingredients in cricket, cricket is an old fashioned game and whatever you do, if you believe in yourself and each other, then more often than not you will come out on top,” he continued.
“It could be the year we win, it could be the year for sure,” Sangakkara told STAR Sports at yesterday’s Foska Oats Jamaica Tallawahs team breakfast at the Melbourne Cricket Oval in Kingston.
