School environments a concern for BSTU

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES at three schools could impact negatively on the start of the new school term. President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, sounded that warning during her address at the union’s annual general meeting at Queen’s College this morning. Redman was speaking specifically to the persistent odour at Combermere, the fall-out from construction next door to the Springer Memorial and the discovery of mould in several of the rooms at The Lodge two years after renovations and construction started. She is calling for an urgent meeting with officials at the Ministry of Education to address those issues before the start of the new term on April 12. (YB)
